Management of Migraine

Have you ever felt that one sided pain on your head that makes you feel like you want to bang your head on the wall? Yes people. I felt that too and it is so painful *cries* TT.TT

or

MIGRAINE FACTS:

1. More than 2/3 migraine sufferers either has never consulted a doctor of have stopped doing so

2. Migraine is underdiagnosed and undertreated.

3. Approximately 26 million patients with migraine in U.S.

4. It is an extremely debilitating collection of neurological symptoms.

1 out of 4 household
has at least 1 migraine sufferer. Mostly affected are actually women
between 25-55 age range.

So, how do you know differentiate between a normal headache and migraine?

You will feel one sided pain and somehow the pain can subside to a greater portion on your head
It is like your head is somehow contracting and your eyes were about to pop out. You hate that the room is too bright or the music is too loud. You feel like you want to vomit. It can really bug you sometimes especially when you are running some of your important errands.

There are many theories on how migraine can happen.

One of it is that we are lacking with this one happy hormones called serotonin

Next is, the blood vessels in our brains are actually dilating which means our blood vessels are getting larger in terms of circumference but to an extent where the blood vessels get really huge so don't worry. Hehe.

There are two type of migraine.
Migraine without aura(common migraine) or migraine with aura (classic migraine)

Both of them are different. Migraine with aura is best classified by the presence of visual aura which is called scintillating scotoma.

This is a drawing that explains the scintillating visual by those people who suffers migraine with aura.

This is what they actually see

So, what does trigger migraine?

There are many triggering factor when it comes to having migraine.
So which one is actually mine?

Hormonal imbalance ladies! Hah, one of our best reasons to not be ourselves like alllll thhheee timeee. I usually have my migraine before I get my period. Like a monthly routine LOL.
My 2nd triggering factor would be the hot sun. If I am living my days at home I rarely go out but once I do, the hot blazing sun will be like 'Hey, let me give you migraine' -.-" What about yours?

Well, it is advisable for us to have a journal to write the time and date of the attack and try our best to remember what we do that day that we think that can be a triggering factor. This is because all of us have different triggering factors.

How to treat migraine?

Sadly to say so, there is no permanent treatment when it comes to migraine. We can only minimize the frequent and severity of attack

1. Try to know the triggering factor and try to avoid them.
2. Do meditation and relaxation training
3. Psychotherapy
4. Acupuncture
5. Alternative medicine *click the link below*

AVOID EATING THIS FOOD WHEN MIGRAINE HAPPENS:

1. Milk
2. Chocolate
3. Cheese
4. Citrus fruits
5. Red Wine

It is advisable to not eat any medication when the attack happens. Even though we sell medication for a living but I wanted all of you to know that the lecturers are teaching us on more of patient-based and not product-based where the patient comes first.

If you can't really deal with the pain, just eat the medication that is prescribed to you.

If the attack happens very frequently like there will be one attack each day in a month, please go and make an appointment with the doctors as they can help to prescribe you with a different treatment because the normal treatment is no longer effective for you.

Be sure to eat and stay healthy.

P.s: I'll be away for my Final Exams. Wish me LUCK!

Toodles!
