Management of Migraine

Have you ever felt that one sided pain on your head that makes you feel like you want to bang your head on the wall? Yes people. I felt that too and it is so painful *cries* TT.TT

or

MIGRAINE FACTS:

1. More than 2/3 migraine sufferers either has never consulted a doctor of have stopped doing so

2. Migraine is underdiagnosed and undertreated.

3. Approximately 26 million patients with migraine in U.S.

4. It is an extremely debilitating collection of neurological symptoms.

1 out of 4 household
has at least 1 migraine sufferer. Mostly affected are actually women
between 25-55 age range.

So, how do you know differentiate between a normal headache and migraine?

You will feel one sided pain and somehow the pain can subside to a greater portion on your head
It is like your head is somehow contracting and your eyes were about to pop out. You hate that the room is too bright or the music is too loud. You feel like you want to vomit. It can really bug you sometimes especially when you are running some of your important errands.

There are many theories on how migraine can happen.

One of it is that we are lacking with this one happy hormones called serotonin

Next is, the blood vessels in our brains are actually dilating which means our blood vessels are getting larger in terms of circumference but to an extent where the blood vessels get really huge so don't worry. Hehe.

There are two type of migraine.
Migraine without aura(common migraine) or migraine with aura (classic migraine)

Both of them are different. Migraine with aura is best classified by the presence of visual aura which is called scintillating scotoma.

Scintillating Migraine Cat

This is a drawing that explains the scintillating visual by those people who suffers migraine with aura.

This is what they actually see

So, what does trigger migraine?

There are many triggering factor when it comes to having migraine.
So which one is actually mine?

Hormonal imbalance ladies! Hah, one of our best reasons to not be ourselves like alllll thhheee timeee. I usually have my migraine before I get my period. Like a monthly routine LOL.
My 2nd triggering factor would be the hot sun. If I am living my days at home I rarely go out but once I do, the hot blazing sun will be like 'Hey, let me give you migraine' -.-" What about yours?

Well, it is advisable for us to have a journal to write the time and date of the attack and try our best to remember what we do that day that we think that can be a triggering factor. This is because all of us have different triggering factors.

How to treat migraine?

Sadly to say so, there is no permanent treatment when it comes to migraine. We can only minimize the frequent and severity of attack

1. Try to know the triggering factor and try to avoid them.
2. Do meditation and relaxation training
3. Psychotherapy
4. Acupuncture
5. Alternative medicine *click the link below*

AVOID EATING THIS FOOD WHEN MIGRAINE HAPPENS:

1. Milk
2. Chocolate
3. Cheese
4. Citrus fruits
5. Red Wine

It is advisable to not eat any medication when the attack happens. Even though we sell medication for a living but I wanted all of you to know that the lecturers are teaching us on more of patient-based and not product-based where the patient comes first.

If you can't really deal with the pain, just eat the medication that is prescribed to you.

If the attack happens very frequently like there will be one attack each day in a month, please go and make an appointment with the doctors as they can help to prescribe you with a different treatment because the normal treatment is no longer effective for you.

Be sure to eat and stay healthy.

P.s: I'll be away for my Final Exams. Wish me LUCK!

Know a Little About Breast Cancer

Isn't that statement is shocking?
I mean if you have 8 roommates, one of you will have the chance to develop breast cancer. I am here to give you guys a little facts about breast cancer.

I know some of you might be shy to tell to your general practitioner about this or even to share this information among your friends or family but remember girls/boys, if you put all this shyness aside, you might get yourself another 20 years life span (just an example)

This is not one of my major in the field that I am studying but I am here just to let you girls be more aware and not to be reluctant about this topic. Early detection is one of the best chances for survival.

Let us start first on 'How to Detect Breast Cancer by Self Examine'

Age 20 years and above:

1.  Do self-examine every month, a week after your period start.
2. If you are pregnant (mengandung) /still in postpartum (berdarah nifas)/
menopause (putus haid), do it on early month.
3. Please seek for your General Practitioner if there is anything weird

Age 50 and above:
1. Undergo mamogram annually

*p.s: Remind our love ones. If you are reading this mama, go and get a mamogram. Love you hehe.
So, constantly remind them to always have her medical check-up.

"Why can't girls below 50 get mamagram?"
This is due to the amount of glandular tissue are in a large amount. So, this may be hard for the image of the tumour to be detected.

"What should I do to avoid being diagnosed with breast cancer?"
1. Have an optimum weight. Calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI) and make sure that they are not beyond normal.

2. Eat food with less fat.
3. Eat your greens which is vegetable for Vitamin E
4. Avoid alcohol
5. Have babies not later than 30++ years old
6. Breast Feeding
7. Eat contraceptive pills
8. Take Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

"What is the treatment for Breast Cancer?"
Since this is not my major subject, I would advise for you girls/guys to check the link that I will put down below.

"Is there anything that you want us to avoid where we are in the treatment phase?"

1. GINSENG
Ginseng consist high amount of estrogen. This hormone will help to enlarge the tumour more.

2. SPIRULINA
Spirulina is extracted from the water, thus it may contain algae which could lead to contamination. This will increase the protein and can lead to kidney disturbance.

3.SABAH SNAKE GRASS (Belalai Gajah)
It could lead to liver damage or toxicity

All of this information has been taken from a 'Breast Cancer Talk" by Profesor Ms Norlia Abdullah. I am so sorry if there is anything that is less in here. If there is anything to correct, feel free to put it in the comments. After all, I am a student too :)
She told us if any of you guys wanted for her to give a talk to any school or company or universities, please do contact her.

Honey, You Saved My Life

Salam and hello guys!

Sorry for MIA for so long. I have no idea on what to write these days. But today I just wanna talk about

HONEY!

Yes honey.

There are more than 300 types of honey just in USA. Honey color ranges from nearly colorless to dark brown, and its flavor varies from delectably mild to bold, depending on where the honey bees buzzed. As a general rule, light-colored honey is milder in taste and dark-colored honey is stronger.

But before that, let me give you guys some fun facts about honey

1.       How to determine whether the honey is authentic or they are just syrup filled with sugar!
-The first thing you could do is put your honey in a freezer.  If the honey freeze the next day, NOT AN AUTHENTIC HONEY

-If you seal the honey tightly, there will be no ants near it. If there is an ants, NOT AN AUTHENTIC HONEY

                2. Which is the best honey to choose?
-Well, the answer to this is easy. Pick the honey from where you live. If it is from US, then buy the US honey. I learned this facts on television show that al-hijrah channel was showing. From the Islam point of view, he said that ‘The illness that you are having right now is from your surroundings. So, where the illness lies there’s a cure’

There are so many benefits of honey but I will narrow them down for you guys!

1.      Act as a cough suppressant

In general, it means that it can help soothes your cough. From what I learn, we have like a lot of types of cough syrups. But the mildest one is called demulcents. Demulcents are mainly made up of sugar (sucrose or fructose) and glycerol. If you need me to explain more on this, you could mention me. This helps in forming a protective layer to you pharynx so when you cough, less discomfort on your throat. And, the sugar used is usually honey.

Cheaper and all natural you might call it. LOL

P.S: DO NOT ever give an infant below 12 months to eat honey. This is because Honey can contain spores of a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum, which can germinate in a baby's immature digestive system and cause infant botulism, a rare but potentially fatal illness.

If you ever eat like one of those solid demulcents like Strepsils or Dequadine, DO NOT SUCK THEM. They are supposed to stay inside your mouth for 2-3 hours. So, if you ever eat those and they never work, try sipping them slowly.

2.      Helps in boosting memory

How you may ask? Honey is filled with antioxidant. Antioxidant helps in preventing cellular damage and loss within the brain. It doesn’t make you any clever, but it keeps memories more efficiently. You might need this if you are studying something that needs a good memorizing brain.

3.       Good energy drink

Honey serves natural sugar to the body. As we all know, sugar helps to wake us up. That is why kids are usually not allowed to eat sugar at night or they might go all hyped and you will be the sleepless mother/sister/babysitter.

4.       Treats wound/burns

Honey itself contains a natural antibiotic. As the name ANTIBIOTIC, it helps to fight bacteria.

Dr. Rowena Jenkins and colleagues, from the University of Wales Institute, reported that Manuka honey kills bacteria by destroying key bacterial proteins.
Some studies have revealed that a certain type of honey, called "Manuka honey," may even be effective for the treatment of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections.
Dr Jenkins concluded:
"Manuka and other honeys have been known to have wound healing and anti-bacterial properties for some time. But the way in which they act is still not known. If we can discover exactly how Manuka honey inhibits MRSA it could be used more frequently as a first-line treatment for infections with bacteria that are resistant to many currently available antibiotics."

As a muslim, Our Prophet of Muhammad (may peace be upon him) glorified the healing power of honey. The Quran even mention about honey.

Cucumber is well known to give a lot of benefits to the skin. We usually put on raw slices of cucumber to our eyes or our skin to get rid of those eye bags and to feel more rejuvenated. There are many types of vitamin present in our body. Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin.Vitamin E is mostly been used by women to prevent their skin from aging and protect against the skin effect of chemical used for chemotherapy. Vitamin E also have antioxidant properties. Antioxidant can prevent the free radical from further damaging your skin. Vitamin E, Vitamin C and Selenium have been approved by the scientists to prevent further damage to your skin.
